Thorntons Conjures Up Cotton Candy Doughnuts
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Every Kentucky State Fair brings with it a new wonderful, wacky, “you-gotta-try-it” state fair food, but there is a new snack that isn’t found at the fair. Convenience-store retailer Thorntons Inc. has introduced the Cotton Candy Donut, a limited-time sweet treat available now through the end of August in Louisville and Lexington, Ky., and southern Indiana locations.
Inspired by memories of exploring the state fair with puffy, fluffy, pastel-colored clouds of dessert on a stick in their hands, the pastry masters at Thorntons’ local bakery created the Cotton Candy Donut. They took a glazed yeast doughnut, dunked it in cotton candy-flavored pink icing, covered it with colorful rainbow sprinkles and topped it all off with a dollop of creamy blue cotton candy-flavored whipped cream.
The Cotton Candy Donut is a fun twist on the Kentucky State Fair, and just like that beloved annual end-of-summer event, it won’t last forever.
