Is Oreo Stealing Snack Rivals’ Thunder?
DEERFIELD, Ill. – The next confirmed flavor coming from Oreos is Cinnamon Bun Oreos, a spokesperson for Mondelez International Inc.’s Nabisco brand, which makes Oreos, told The Daily Meal, and Oreo is expected to roll out Filled Cupcake Oreos, according to an October 1 Instagram posting that has since been deleted.
The company has not indicated when the new cinnamon bun flavor will hit store shelves, but it will reportedly consist of a cinnamon cookie with “cinnamon bun-flavored creme.”
The limited-edition cupcake flavor “will be hitting the stores in January 2016,” the social media posting said.
A spokesperson for Mondelez International would not confirm the cupcake flavor rumor to CSP Daily News.
The Filled Cupcake Oreos reportedly feature the classic chocolate cookie outside, with chocolate creme on the inside edge with the white creme filling in the center.
Given the popularity of cinnamon buns and cupcakes, the resemblance of these new Oreo flavors to popular products made by bakery kiosk company Cinnabon and snack cake rival Hostess, respectively, may be purely coincidental.
The company has also recently introduced Toasted Coconut Oreos, Brownie Batter Oreos, Oreo Thins, S’Mores Oreos and Red Velvet Oreos, all for a limited time.
